\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tFirst of all, I’d like to give you an update on the TOBII device donated to Lyon’s Croix Rousse hospital. \n\n\n\n\nThe head of the intensive care unit, Docteur Guichon, contacted me in mid-June to tell me that the TOBII was virtually useless now that most patients were in a coma, and that it would therefore be more useful in another department. \n\n\n\n\nI thought directly of the tragedy of the young English rugby player, James Lasis: \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

“James Lasis underwent emergency surgery and is on life support. <\/p>

The family of a 25-year-old rugby player are flying to France to be at his bedside after suffering serious injuries on the field. <\/p>

Horsted Keynes’ James Lasis is on life support following surgery for a neck injury sustained while playing for Nice. <\/p>

His mother Judy Lasis said: “He obviously can’t talk because he has tubes inside him, but he’s fully conscious. <\/p>

“Communication at the moment is through a wink and he has no movement at the moment.” <\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

So I contacted the Pasteur hospital in Nice, and through Madame Durand Sophie (team manager), and following arrangements between the 2 hospitals, the TOBII arrived in the department of Professor Ichi Carole of the polyvalent intensive care unit at Pasteur II in Nice. This enabled James Lasis to correspond not only with his loved ones, but also with the hospital staff. James has since returned to England to continue his convalescence, but the Tobii continues to help others. It is currently used daily by a 55-year-old man and a 42-year-old woman. Out of respect for their privacy, we won’t give away any information about the reasons for their condition or their current situation, because what matters is that this device enables them to leave this world of silence and correspond with the outside world. <\/p>

So a very \n many thanks<\/strong>\n<\/span> and a speedy recovery to James.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

As explained in the last newsletter, Philippe Enjolras, aka Fifel, spent over 48 hours creating a polyptych fresco comprising 12 paintings measuring 3m by 1m50, to be auctioned off for the benefit of 6 associations, including our foundation.<\/p>

Unfortunately, the bidders didn’t turn up, but Fifel’s kindness “struck again” by allowing our foundation to acquire this work for a derisory price (in relation to its value), so that the 5 other associations wouldn’t go home empty-handed and allow us to resell it afterwards, in order to make a nice capital gain (at least, I hope so).<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Now we come to my request.<\/p>

At the tribute for Nicolas at the EGC, after being asked: “How are you?”, I finally let myself go and admitted that my smiles were just a facade and that I was getting worse and worse. In fact, there are several stages in mourning: denial, shock, fear, regret, remorse, guilt, sadness, rage, pain, and then, normally, resilience and acceptance… accepting to live despite the death.<\/p>

However, apart from the denial stage, I’m constantly going through all these stages, preventing me from becoming a good mother to my 2 other children, a good daughter to my parents, a friend to my friends, a living woman… from doing my job properly…<\/p>

I very quickly regretted my carelessness in front of all those people, I thought I’d only succeeded in making them cry… especially those young people…<\/p>

But then, a few people told me they were relieved to see me break down, as it echoed their own grief and that hearing me talk about it had made them feel better… much to my surprise!<\/p>

For, indeed, I became aware that my grief was also making me selfish, as if my death were unique.<\/p>

So, like this October 18, I take off my mask and ask for help for the Nicolas Gigot Foundation, because I can’t do it anymore. I need help to keep going. Donations are one thing, but help will be even more valuable in moving the foundation forward. There are so many things to do, like finding someone to :<\/p>

Making newsletters
Contact retailers for sales of products donated to the foundation (dvd\/blu-ray\/coffret…)
Contact radios
Organize tombolas and festivities…
Finding sponsors
Propose challenges, find donors
Increase awareness of the Foundation
Find a sponsor who’s well known… and, above all, concerned.
Taking care of the store
Responding to visitors<\/p>

… so many things that can help the foundation move forward and, at the same time, motivate me to come up with new ideas, because the more of us there are, the more ideas we’ll have!<\/p>
