My Nicolas,
A lot of your friends have asked me if this year I’ll be doing the little party near your garden, which I prefer to call your garden because the word “grave” is so hard to pronounce. I remember last year, that picnic on the lawn in front of you, with the various sandwiches and unlimited sangria. This may come as a shock, but I know you loved it!
But this year, I don’t have the emotional strength to do it… Three years since you left, an eternity and yet it seems like yesterday. Time does not mitigate anything… That’s a load of crap. Your absence rekindles the embers of my grief every minute I think of you.
I’ll never be able to say, looking at your photos, “Ah, those were the days,” because those days were stolen from me, and more importantly, from you. The memories will always be painful, accompanied by that incessant feeling of anger, powerlessness and regret.
My son, your loss is a wound that will never heal. Every day, I miss your radiant smile, your warm presence and your voice that resonated with so much life. But despite the distress that consumes my heart, I find comfort in knowing that we can continue to honor your memory through the Nicolas Gigot Foundation.
This foundation, created in your name, reflects your generous spirit and your love for others. Through this foundation, we continue your legacy by supporting causes close to your heart, bringing a little light and hope where it’s needed. Every action we take in your name is a way of paying tribute to your life and ensuring that your memory lives on.
On this third anniversary of your passing, I pledge to carry on your work and make a difference in the world, just as you did in your lifetime. Your presence continues to inspire us to be better, more loving and more caring people.
Nicolas, you will always be in our thoughts, in our conversations, and in our hearts. Your light continues to shine among us, you are and always will be loved, cherished and missed.
